About John Cottrell
As a homeschooler in southern California, I spent many days working with my dad on projects ranging from electrical work to irrigation. I was also employed by my local church doing landscaping, facility repairs, and countless other projects. I had a love for restoring cars in high school, which led me to get a degree in mechanical engineering at California Baptist University. After college I began working on cranes in the port of LA/Long Beach as a crane engineer and purchased a fixer-upper house. I have restored it, top to bottom. This project included tiling, plumbing, electrical, drywall, plaster, stucco, painting, etc... Although I enjoy the technical side of engineering, I missed working with my hands. In Fall of 2024 I decided to start Cottrell Handyman Services to help the good people of southern California and get back to my roots of doing what I love. Although I am not currently a licensed contractor, I am pursuing that route while “handyman-ing” and look forward to becoming a licensed contractor in the near future.
